The Biggest Fight Ever!

Disclaimer: Fishermen stories are supposed to contain high exaggeration or some make-up parts. But the following is not!

As September has just come by and people (a few though) were sharing some bluefish reports from and around the Bosphorus, I pulled the car for one of the nearest and the most trustable spots of mine at evening time. Here is a fishing port surrounded by heavy rocks, which makes the place a spot. Most noticeably, I had caught a brown meagre on the these rocks before.

I was casting with the light stuff, an ajing rod with 0.5 – 12 g lure rating in particular. Until 2 hours after the sunset, I threw lots of lures (both soft and hard) with a hope of some bluefish and less probably sea bass.  Nothing happened at all… Then moved to play with some jighead + silicone combinations…

For quite years, I have Savage Gear 3D Manic Crab (black color) in my lure box and have yet to prove it really works in serious sense. I was making some little jumping actions on the bottom with the crab not much far from the rocks. Suddenly, a strike got me saucer-eyed but initially I thought it was a goby or so… A couple of seconds right after hooking, it made me taste the total strength of its own! My reel was ready and setup for almost fully closed drag for such cases to prevent line breakage. However, I was hearing drag noises as if I forgot to adjust beforehand. Getting so thrilled, I stepped onto the most front rock and had the net ready with one hand. It was stopping for a few seconds but then swimming in-and-out of the rocks again…

The fight lasted about two minutes and it eventually got my 0.07 mm PE braid broken off with the rocks… And I sweared for the next whole minute… It would undoubtedly be my biggest fish ever so far! Unluckily, I could not handle or even see it… My guess is that it was not a flat-bodied one like breams but most likely a giant brown meagre or a 4-5 kg-weighted sea bass… Maybe a bigger monster! I can not know because I have not spooled such a creature before! God knows…

In the following hours, my mind was totally complicated through all these thoughts with an additional upset that the fish was gone with a hook in its mouth and perhaps it will cause some deadly harm.

Now I am cooled off writing this post but it may be an unforgettable experience for the rest of my life…
